San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya

In this picturesque village there is an expertise for making the popular cut-out paper designs that hang in family homes, outside churches and across streets in village fiestas, for Day of the Dead, Independence Day, Christmas fiestas and Weddings etc. Margarita Sanchez Martinez is one of those gifted paper artists that make so many styles and types of paper cut out for all occasions.

Church of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya
This is the church that has the most complete original murals from late XVI and early XVII centuries. These murals are important as they are the authentic art subjects that were presented to the Indian masses in beautiful colors and painted with "Grana Cochinilla" natural dyes. There are also complete wooden altars with preserved paintings. There is a beautiful historic organ on the choir that stands out. It has been restored and concerts are given during the historic organ festival every fall. For more details see www.iohio.org Entrance Fee: Open daily from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. and from 4 p.m.–6 p.m.
