This is an area, relatively close to the city but over 4,000 feet above the valley floor in a region better known as the Sierra Juarez; the cloud forest. Several villages have formed a unique joint communal treaty to both protect their forest as well as offer safe and attractive hikes within the vastness of these forests; to identify plants, birds, visit communities, learn from the highland farming techniques and specialties raised there such as potatoes, water crest and chick peas. There are also horse and mountain bike rentals as well as cabins to stay one or more nights in different communities. Whether hiking or community immersion is your interest, this is the region of Oaxaca that may be fit for you!
